World Tourism Day
World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on September 27 to recognize the vital role that tourism plays in connecting people, cultures, and economies around the world. Established in 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), this day aims to raise awareness about the social, cultural, political, and economic significance of tourism (UNWTO, 2025).
Tourism contributes to job creation, community development, and cultural preservation, while also promoting understanding and cooperation among nations. Each year, World Tourism Day is observed under a specific theme, highlighting global challenges and opportunities such as sustainability, digital innovation, and responsible travel (UNWTO, 2025).
Communities, governments, and organizations worldwide celebrate the day through events, campaigns, and activities that encourage travelers to explore responsibly, support local economies, and protect cultural and natural heritage. World Tourism Day serves as a reminder of the positive impact that tourism can have in building a more inclusive, sustainable, and connected world (UNESCO, 2025).
