This Trans Niugini Tours boutique lodge is situated in the heart of the Karawari – a Sepik River tributary.

Karawari Lodge offers guests a private unforgettable immersion into Karawari culture, food and natural surroundings – all within the comfort and professionalism of one of Papua New Guinea’s respectable tour operators and accommodation providers.

The lodge has a private airstrip with the Karawari River being the only way in or out. Stilted villages line the edges of flooded waterways and dug out canoes are the primary mode of transport

River excursions are offered in 18-seat motorized jet boats to the surrounding villages.  Visit traditional homes, witness ceremonial dances and glimpse what life must have been like in bygone days.

Founded by brothers Richard and Andrew James in 2010, On Track Expeditions began operating expeditions on the Kokoda Track from a strong relationship that was formed with the local community of Abuari.

Fast forward to today and On Track Expeditions now facilitates small group premium hiking expeditions throughout Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Africa and Australia. Every one of our expeditions focuses on a holistic expedition approach in which you will not just walk, but learn the local culture, play with the local kids and travel in an ethical manner.

Every trekker on our expeditions makes a direct contribution through their trekking package to an in-country organisation that promotes education, health and well-being among the local communities.

Since we began in 1992, we have created literally thousands of tailor-made wildlife holidays for people from all walks of life. We like to sum up what we do in 3 ways…

Travel

We offer a simply unparalleled range of opportunities to see the finest wildlife in the world, travelling by air, by expedition vessel, in open four-wheel-drive vehicles, boats, canoes and, of course, on foot.

We harness not only the best ways of getting you where you need to be, but also the optimum means of watching wildlife and looking after you while you are there.

Experience

We only work with local operators and guides who can provide peerless wildlife viewing and harness the disparate elements of memorable accommodation, seamless travel arrangements, and first-class guiding to provide a friendly, efficient service.

These experiences will enrich your knowledge and understanding of the complex inter-relationships that exist in the natural world.

Conserve

Our passion for conservation percolates through every fiber of our organisation, driving everything we do.

We firmly believe that the sustainable development of wildlife tourism can be a major tool in promoting conservation, generating long-term benefits for animals, the environment and communities alike.
