Jacada was founded in 2008 by Alex Malcolm, who wanted to show people the side of a country that not everyone gets to see. While working in Brazil, he was lucky enough to travel the country with local friends who took him to places and shared things he would never have experienced on his own. He felt there was a space to create these unique travel experiences with a personal, human touch for others – and flew back to the UK to start his own company. Though we started out just selling trips to Brazil, Jacada has now grown into an international travel company, selling trips around the world; and despite our growth, Alex’s vision still remains. The Adventure Park is Port Moresby’s only theme park and features an assortment of rides and attractions including a delightful Ferris wheel with fine views across the plains at 14 Mile, water-slides, paddle-boats, and a colourful merry-go-round to rival Mary Poppins’ adventures.
Equally colourful is the display of native orchids found at the National Orchid Gardens at the edge of the Park. The gardens house the largest collection of orchids in the Southern Hemisphere. All year round, you can explore over three thousand orchid species, unique to Papua New Guinea. Peak flowering season for most orchids is between December and March.
Discover iconic birds and animals such as the Ragianna bird-of-paradise with its dazzling colors and plumage, the daunting saltwater crocodile, the flamboyant Victoria Crowned pigeons, and the furry tree kangaroo. Take note of the crocodile feeding time (Saturday & Sunday at 3 pm), a spectacle in itself.
There are winding pathways to other attractions like the Wildlife Sanctuary, train and man-made ponds filled with fish. You can hire rods and reels from the shop – there is a competition running and prizes awarded to those that manage to catch a tagged fish, this is a fun activity for the entire family.

Airport Lodge is near the Boram Wewak Airport in East Sepik Province.
The lodge is known for its backpacker budget accommodation. The cheaper rooms with shared facilities are a tad musty but those with small private bathrooms pass the sniff test and come with TVs.
There’s a large aviary in the tropical gardens and the best feature of this friendly yet tired-looking place is the upstairs dining/bar terrace that overflows with greenery.
