KOKODA'S LITTLE BROTHER

Trek the famous Bulldog Track beginning in Lakekamu Basin, a huge forested basin rich in birds and wildlife.

During World War II, the Bulldog Track was pushed from Malalaua to Edie Creek near Wau in Morobe Province to carry provisions. The road took nine months to complete, included 17 bridges and was the first and only time in history that vehicles ever crossed these high rugged mountains.

Today it is overgrown and accessible only by foot. Overnight in a village guesthouse in Makara, Kakoro and Tekaku. Another track at Kaintiba, in the mountains behind the coast, is also great for walking. Most of the villages in the Kaintiba region have mission stations where it’s possible for the intrepid traveller (that’s you) to stay.
